In this tutorial we will learn how to create a cool music player design. We will use vector shapes and layer styles.
For the beginning, let’s create a new file (File>New), having 1280×1024 px and 72 dpi.
Select then the Rectangle Tool (U) that should be used for representing the background of the picture to be on the final stage.
Set the next demonstrated parameters by making a mouse click on the layers’ panel, to be more exactly, on the layer we work with. Blending Options>Gradient Overlay
Gradient’s parameters:
Now we should choose the Rounded Rectangle Tool (U) with a radius of 35 px to draw the primary layer of the media player’s panel. The layer’s color is #303030
The layer’s parameters: Blending Options>Drop Shadow
Blending Options>Inner Shadow
Blending Options>Bevel and Emboss
Make a copy of the last made layer and then change the copied layer’s parameters with those indicated below:
Fill 0%
Blending Options>Bevel and Emboss
Next we shall represent the next layer belonging to the same media player. In this case we shall use the Rounded Rectangle Tool (U) and the Free Transform option for the layer’s small inclining.
The layer’s parameters: Fill 0%
Blending Options>Inner Shadow
Blending Options>Outer Glow
Blending Options>Gradient Overlay
Gradient’s parameters:
Blending Options>Stroke
Gradient’s parameters:
Next we shall represent the screen of the media player, applying the Rounded Rectangle Tool (U) with a radius of 15 px.
The layer’s parameters: Blending Options>Gradient Overlay
Gradient’s parameters:
Blending Options>Stroke
Make a copy of the recently drawn layer and choose again the Free Transform selection to make the copy smaller, placing it as the next picture indicates it. The parameters of the copy – layer should be changed with those from below:
The layer’s parameters: Blending Options>Drop Shadow
Blending Options>Gradient Overlay
Gradient’s parameters:
Blending Options>Stroke
Gradient’s parameters:
On the next stage we’ll draw the primary layer reserved for the player’s buttons. In this case we should use firstly the Ellipse Tool (U) and then press SHIFT button while using the Rounded Rectangle Tool (U) (radius 10 px) to insert several prominences on the left and right sides, as well as on the top and bottom parts. Press Alt button while using the Rectangle Tool (U) to divide the buttons on special sectors. Make the appropriate changes with the Free Transform option if necessary.
The layer’s parameters: Blending Options>Inner Glow
Blending Options>Gradient Overlay
Gradient’s parameters:
Blending Options>Stroke
Use the same method, described above to create the next layer belonging to the buttons. The instruments applied are the same as in the previous case.
The layer’s parameters: Blending Options>Inner Glow
Blending Options>Gradient Overlay
Gradient’s parameters:
Blending Options>Stroke
Gradient’s parameters:
This time we have to use the Ellipse Tool (U) to represent the primary layer reserved for the main play button on the player.
The layer’s parameters: Blending Options>Gradient Overlay
Gradient’s parameters:
Blending Options>Stroke
Choose again the same Ellipse Tool (U), useful for drawing the next layer reserved for the main button on the media player.
The layer’s parameters: Blending Options>Inner Glow
Blending Options>Bevel and Emboss
Blending Options>Gradient Overlay
Gradient’s parameters:
Blending Options>Stroke
Gradient’s parameters:
Using the Pen Tool (P), let’s draw the symbol of the Play button.
The layer’s parameters: Blending Options>Gradient Overlay
Gradient’s parameters:
Blending Options>Stroke
Applying the Rectangle Tool (U), it’s possible to create the “STOP” symbol from below and the “PAUSE” symbol from above. Their color is white.
It’s time to represent the symbols indicating the forward and back play. The instrument used in this case is the Custom Shape Tool (U) and white color. Free Transform option should be used if necessary.
We have to represent now several of the decorative elements between the buttons, applying the Rounded Rectangle Tool (U) with a radius of 2 px. Select then the Free Transform option for the appropriate inclinement.
The layer’s parameters: Fill 0%
Blending Options>Drop Shadow
Blending Options>Inner Glow
Blending Options>Stroke
Make three copies of the recently made layer and select then Free Transform option to place the copies the same way demonstrated below:
Next stage includes drawing one more decorative element on the panel, situated on the right side of the player’s buttons, selecting for this operation the Rounded Rectangle Tool (U) with a radius of 10 px.
The layer’s parameters: Fill 0%
Blending Options>Inner Shadow
Blending Options>Color Overlay
Blending Options>Stroke
Gradient’s parameters:
Next try to draw the next demonstrated element with the Rectangle Tool (U) inside the decorative insertion on the right side.
The layer’s parameters: Fill 0%
Blending Options>Gradient Overlay
Gradient’s parameters:
Blending Options>Stroke
Combine in a group all the layers composing the decorative insertion with its three elements (press Ctrl button to mark out the appropriate layers and then hold on the left mouse’s button while taking the marked layers on Create a new group solution). Make a copy of the last created group and choose again the Free Transform option to turn over the copy the same way shown below.
We need also to change the layer’s parameters of those three inside elements.
Blending Options>Gradient Overlay
Gradient’s parameters:
Let’s draw one more decorative element on the right side of the already done elements, applying as usually the Rectangle Tool (U) and the Convert Point Tool for the appropriate corrections.
The layer’s parameters: Fill 0%
Blending Options>Stroke
Gradient’s parameters:
Next we’ll draw the sound’s regulator on the left and right sides on the media player’s screen. Use for this operation the Rounded Rectangle Tool (U) (radius 10 px) to mark the placement of these regulators and then press Alt button while using the Rectangle Tool (U).
The layer’s parameters: Fill 0%
Blending Options>Gradient Overlay
Gradient’s parameters:
Insert also the track’s duration on the left side of the screen.
The layer’s parameters: Blending Options>Drop Shadow
Insert the rest of the track’s information necessary for getting it:
the track’s title, stereo, B, V, 44khz, 128kbps
mono
Using the Rounded Rectangle Tool (U) with a radius of 10 px, it’s possible to introduce the play cursor.
The layer’s parameters: Fill 0%
Blending Options>Gradient Overlay
Gradient’s parameters:
Blending Options>Stroke
Create a new layer and then let’s draw on it a new decorative element situated on the bottom part of the media player’s screen. We need to choose also the Pencil Tool (B) (brush of 3 px) for this manipulation. All the elements should be created on the same layer. The color is white.
Make a click on the same layer on the bottom part of the layers’ panel on Add a Mask option. Using the Gradient Tool (G) (the instrument’s direction should be from left to the right side), it’s possible to represent a kind of darkening.
It’s time to create a new layer for a special button, applying the Rounded Rectangle Tool (U) (radius 5 px) and the color from here - #5E5E5E
Make a copy of the new layer and select the Free Transform option to place the copy as the next image indicates it.
Make one more copy of the button’s layer and select the Free Transform option to situate the copy the same way from next picture, changing also the layer’s parameters:
The layer’s parameters: Fill 0%
Blending Options>Stroke
Create a new layer and then apply the Pencil Tool (B) (radius 3 px) to represent the symbols on those special buttons.
Using the Rectangle Tool (U), it’s time to draw the layer reserved for the new ornament that will be situated on the right side of the media player’s screen, having the color #2B2B2B
The layer’s parameters: Blending Options>Stroke
Create a new layer again and on this one we should use a brush out of the so – called brushes’ set Floral Ornaments. This time the color applied is white too.
Press Alt button while making a click between the brush’s layers and the ornament’s layer (on the layers’ panel).
Select the next shown parameters for the brush’s layer: Fill 40%
It’s time to draw a highlight on the media player’s screen, using this time the Rounded Rectangle Tool (U) (radius 20 px).
The layer’s parameters: Fill 0%
Blending Options>Gradient Overlay
Gradient’s parameters:
Create once again a new layer (Create new layer) on which we need to draw several highlights on the media player’s body, applying in this case the Brush Tool (B) (Opacity 20%) of white color.
You may see above what we’ve got on the final stage!
