Today we have one very complex and pretty hard tutorial. In this tutorial (I cant say Photoshop, because we will use not only this software) you will learn how to create futuristic Berserker scene.
You know that you cant become a professional designer if you will use only one program, like Photoshop. You need learn more software and combine all in one project and this tutorial is great example for it, because to create this effect we will use 4 programs. You will learn various 3D techniques in combination of the following programs: Poser8, Autodesk 3Ds Max, Cinema4D and Photoshop.
Final Image Preview
1.Step
So we will star not with Photoshop, but with Poser. Open Poser and delete the default setings (Figure -> Delete figure). Now create model that we will use in this effect. We will use standart model, therefore hit the Bookstores and choose: Poser6/Jessi.
Export this model using option Export -> 3d Studio.
Remember to export in groups, and also add options you can see below.
2.Step
Import our figure in 3Ds Max.At first choose most suitable view for you (publishers of view). And also delete the object selector of the knees down.
Now we will start to modify object. Open the material editor or simply press the "M" and put the following values:
Ambient: Red: 150 Green.150 Blue: 150 Hue: 0 Sat: 0 Value: 150
Diffuse: Red: 150 Green.150 Blue: 150 Hue: 0 Sat: 0 Value: 150
Especular: Red: 149 Green.149 Blue: 149 Hue: 0 Sat: 0 Value: 149
Render our figure (Rendering -> Render setup) and put the following values:
We add large output size: 3000x3000, and keep it as .Png, rgb, 42bits. Remember to activate the alpha channel.
3.Step
Now we will start work with Photoshop. Create a new document 750x1080, 300 resolution and 8 bits, rgb color.4.Step
Create a new layer, fill with black color, add Gradient - Overlay; colors #9b9b9b and #ffffff.5.Step
We will put several layers of textures, lights, shadows and gradient maps to create mysterious gray background. How much layers you will need, depends on the perspective you wants to give for work.5.1 Texture: Layer Mode: Luminosity, Opacity: 20% + mask layer
5.2 Clouds: Layer Mode: Overlay, Opacity: 10% + mask layer
5.3 Clouds: Layer Mode: Overlay, Opacity: 22% + mask layer
5.4 Black: Layer Mode: Soft Light, Opacity: 74% + mask layer
5.5 Black: Layer Mode: Normal, Opacity: 11%
5.6 Black: Layer Mode: Soft Light, Opacity: 38%
5.7 Black and White: Layer Mode: Soft Light, Opacity: 13%
5.8 Gradient Map: Layer Mode: Hard Light, Opacity: 71%
Be very careful and create layers and modifications similar likw on image below.
6.Step
Create triangles "Omega Code" using standard Photoshop Custom Shape Tool and add a Gradient with the colors lineal "bebebe" and "ffffff7.Step
Now add object that we created in 3Ds Max and Poser. Add a Gradient map inverted Black and White.8.Step
Add little bit of light effects. For that you can use soft brush with azure color and play with layer options. Add lights using image below as reference.9.Step
Lets start to add abstract forms to our work. In this case I'm reusing an old render, you can use the one that best suits you. When your abstract form is ready, edit it using the Layer masks, Gradients maps. You can modify it as you want, it become personal taste. You can see my example below.
10.Step
For this work we need more abstract objects and this time we want create 3D objects, therefore we will use Cinema4D. Open Cinema4D and create a sphere (Object -> Primitive -> Sphere).11.Step
Create a new material (File -> New material) and edit the color brightness up to 111 and a color (255,255,255).12.Step
Now we will scoff with this object. We will deform it. Begin with the application of deformation (Object -> Deformations). Use a "Bend" and a "Wind" functions.13.Step
Add a hypernurbs (Object -> Nurbs -> Hypernurbs).14.Step
Now copy and paste the items as many times as you want and add lighting, in my case I add more as I wanted a lot of intensity, but this depends on what effect you want. To render these elements bring it into a high resolution as .Psd and the channel alpha activated.15.Step
Add our new abstract beans to our work in Photoshop. Edit them: transform, change sizes, positions and delete some parts using layer masks etc. You can use image below as reference.16.Step - Creation of 3D Bubbles
And again we will use Cinema4D. So, open it and create three spheres.Create a material "Danel" (File -> Shader -> Danel).
And edit material using images below as references.
Join our fields with a metball (Object -> Modeling -> Metball).
Create a sky (Sky -> Object -> Scene). This will help us with the colors. To render these elements bring it into a high resolution as .Psd with alpha channel enabled.
17.Step
Add 3D Bubbles in Photoshop.18.Step
With the technique I use in 9.step, add more renders. Quantity depends on you.19.Step - Cone Creation
Come back to Cinema4D (last time, I promise) and create a cone (Object -> Primitive -> Cone).Start to edit our cone. For this go to the tab Order and put the Top segments: 5.
After that you can edit cone using the Selection Cyclical, but this depends on how you edit your figure.
Add texture to materials that you like and add a sky (you already know how to do it). And export it using same technique we used earlier. To render these elements bring it into a high resolution as .Psd with alpha channel enabled.
20.Step
Fw more steps. At first add cones to our work in Photoshop and edit them using same technique that you use earlier (with Layer masks, Gradients maps, Transform tool etc.).21.Step
Now go to Deviant and download some wires files. I use these wires. Add wires behind the our main object and merge it.22.Step
And final step. Our work is already ready, but you can add more details to make it more efective, for example you can add more lights, fire. And that's it. Our work is complete.Final Result: Futuristic Berserker Scene
I understand that it is hard to create effect like this in you aren't professional design as in this effect you need to use almost all common design software (Poser, Cinema4D, 3DsMax and Photoshop). That's why to facilitate your study we add to downloadable file, not only Psd file of this effect, but also all Poser, Cinema4D, 3DsMax object files that you will need in this tutorial. Totally in this downloadable file we add 7 file that will facilitate your study.
