We have asked 217 political bloggers, journalists and commentators both republicans and democrats to give their opinions on which mistakes and screw-ups they consider as the worst from president Bush and his administration. Not surprisingly almost all top entries were related to the Iraq war, which we have just grouped into one entry

1. The War in Iraq

2. Credit Crisis

 Top-Bush-Mistake-Credit-Crisis   By de-regulating the financial institutions and not trying to counter the sub prime crisis or the real estate bubble in time

3. Violation of human rights

 Human Rights   Waterboarding, Guantanamo, Abu Ghraib, transporting detainees to torture sites and regimes in Eastern Europe and the middle east. There have been many cases to coose from.

4. Hurricane Katrina

 Screwup-Hurricane-Katrina   A domestic screw-up where the top-level responsibility for having appointed incompetent people and by not responding to the crisis in the best way

5. Global warming

 global warming   Denying that global warming could be man-made, dismissing the Kyoto-treaty and other important initiatives and reports

6. Foreign Affairs

 Foreign relations   Having left America more isolated in the world, weakened the UN and not progressed towards solutions in troubled regions.

8. Enron and California Power crisis

 enron   Involvement in the Enron scandal and not intervening in the California power crisis out of political reasons

10. Steering the US automotive industry into bankruptcy

 hummer   The Bush tax break for heavy trucks seems to contradict other national goals, such as improving vehicle fuel efficiency. A more economical fleet would aid two important national goals: reducing U.S. dependence on foreign oil and cutting greenhouse gasses. In addition the competitiveness of the US automotive industry is sufering now as focus was not on fuel efficient models.
